A long block is the assembled core of the engine: the crankcase fitted with crankshaft, main and big-end bearings, pistons, connecting rods, camshaft and cylinder heads, torqued to MAN factory tolerances. It sits between a bare short block and a complete engine: your existing ancillaries, turbocharger, injection equipment, coolers, pumps, flywheel, wiring and manifolds, transfer across from the old engine.
It is the fastest route back to service when the bottom end is beyond economic repair, for example after a spun bearing, crankshaft or crankcase damage, liner cavitation, or overheating and seizure.
