About this pump

The high-pressure pump raises fuel to the pressure injection demands, and on mechanical engines it also meters and times the delivery to each cylinder. It is a precision machine, and the fuel passing through it is the only lubricant its internals ever get.

That is why these pumps fail. Water in the fuel breaks down the lubricating film and corrodes the plunger and barrel. Abrasive dirt scores those same surfaces until the pump can no longer build or hold pressure. Running a tank dry can do the damage in seconds. The result is hard starting, low power and rough running.

Quality OEM alternatives are available for this pump: Bosch 0986437352 and Bosch 0445020203. They carry a 1 year warranty rather than the two years on the genuine MAN part, and are often the sensible commercial choice on an older engine. Contact us and we will quote all the options so you can decide.

A remanufactured exchange unit is also available under part number 51.11103-9848, which lowers cost and keeps a serviceable core in circulation.

Before condemning a pump, rule out the cheap causes first. A blocked filter, a collapsing suction hose or a failing feed pump will starve the injection pump and produce very similar symptoms. When you fit a new pump, find the cause of the old failure, renew every fuel filter, drain the water separator, and check the injectors for debris. Full guidance is on our high-pressure fuel pumps page.

Send us the model and serial number from your engine's data plate and we will confirm that 51.11103-7848 is the correct pump before anything is ordered.
